County Legislative Delegations |
|
Each of the 46 counties in South Carolina have legislators within their boundaries that form that county's Legislative Delegation. Some are large like Greenville with 22 legislators; others are small like Newberry with only 2. And some legislators overlap into other counties.
Among other things, the legislators work together to appoint boards and commissions, Notary Publics, and often legislation they support. The county provides a support staff for their delegation members. They also hold periodic meetings where public participation and comment is allowed.
This subset of legislators who work specifically within your county can fit easily into one of our advocacy programs. Larger counties lean toward Postcard Parties. Letter Writing can be directed to smaller ones. And as always, a one-on-one meeting with your specific legislator is the best.
Click here for the list of SC County Legislative Delegations. The number of legislators within each county is located after their name. Within each county listing, contact information is given for each legislator in the House and Senate (link to that by clicking on their name). Current sponsors of the bills are highlighted in green. If you are successful in getting one or two sponsors within the delegation, others might be inclined to sign-on as well.
Postcard Parties lend themselves more to county's with more than 10 Legislators. Those include Berkeley (11), Charleston (21), Dorchester (12), Greenville (22), Horry (15), Lexington (14), Richland (17), Spartanburg (13) and York (13).
