The only way we're going to get the ERA passed is by telling our legislators we support it. Whether at the federal level or state, your legislator needs to hear from you!
For background, download and read our ERA Brochure.
Contact information for all South Carolina legislators can be found on the Senate and House Scorecard. The scorecards also indicate which legislators are in support.
Methods of Contact
Start with a phone call to find out where your legislator stands. Sometimes that's all it takes. A staff person will answer, and you can simply say, "I am a constituent and I want Senator/Representative _______ to support the Equal Rights Amendment. Will he/she please sign on as a cosponsor?"
You can meet with your legislator. For steps to walk you thru that process, click here.
Hand-written letters and postcards (links below) are also good (they create a physical presence and touch).
Emails are rarely read, but can be effective en masse. A single email can be sent to an individual legislator, to an entire committee's members, as well as to ALL members of either the House or Senate.
Letters to the Editor are wonderful and can reach a diverse audience (click here for writing tips).
