​ELECTED OFFICIALS NEED TO HEAR SUPPORT FOR THE ERA DIRECTLY FROM THEIR CONSTITUENTS.

One-on-one is the best contact to have, but due to Covid, meetings are tough to do. So we've been doing Legislator Zooms! If you are interested in setting up a Zoom call with your legislator and members of the Equal Means ERA team, contact Barbara Fry.

Tips on Calling your Legislator
  • First off, be positive and friendly.
  • Introduce yourself, tell them you're a constituent and say you support ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment in their chamber. Ask if they support it as well.
  •  If they do, thank them and ask that they sign on to the resolution as a sponsor (they can do so at any time). If they don't support it, ask them why not.  
  • Depending on their answer, rather than getting into a big discussion, you can simply say:
    • ​​With the exception of the right to vote, women are not in the Constitution. Women do not have the same legal protections within our founding document as men (while progress has been made —​ legislation can be changed, and judicial rulings are based on "interpretation" of rights others have gained.) We need to amend the Constitution to give women equal justice under law. We need the ERA.
